Rodger Federer, then the No. 2 seed and Wimbledon champ was ousted by David Nalbandian, 3-6, 7-6 (7-1), 6-4, 6-3 Thursday September 5th 2003 on the Arthur Ashe.
Six years later Nalmbandian’s fellow Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro had to go through Rafael Nadal and Federer to win his first Grand Slam at just 20 years old.
